School crossing patrol service

The City of Edinburgh Council is responsible for providing School Crossing Patrol Guides, to primary schools throughout the City, to help children cross busy roads on their way to and from school.

This service operates using part-time staff throughout the school year. We try to ensure each site is staffed throughout the school term but cannot guarantee this. We are not required by law to provide crossing patrols, but we value their role.

Parents may regard the provision of a patrol as an indication that we are assuming the responsibility for the safety of their children on their journey to and from school, but this is a misconception. Parents remain responsible for ensuring their children’s safety to and from school even where a patrol is provided.

View the Council's website or more information on the service and to request new guides.
